When I consider Thy heavens, the work of Thy
fingers, the moon and the stars, which Thou hast ordained; What is man,
that Thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that Thou visitest
him? ~Psalm 8:3-4
I can picture David strolling under a moonlit sky, gazing upward at all the twinkling stars scattered across a sea of black velvet and feeling so small and insignificant and as he walked he considered the vastness of God's creation and pondered why a God who created such beauty and grandeur would look on mankind with such great love and affection. David got what many of us miss. He realized the overwhelming fact that God does not need us. He realized that man without God is nothing, but God without man is still God and considering who and what He is; what could we possibly offer Him?

David knew that God created us a
little lower than the angels, but chose to crown us with honor and
glory (Psalm 8:5) and this amazed David. He knew that he was a created
being. A creation that came from the dust of the earth and only exists
because God breathed the breath of life into the first man and that life
remains to this day only because God chooses for it to remain. David
was in awe and David was deeply grateful that this God knew him by name
and loved him like a son. He was confident, not in himself, but in the
care and watchful eye of the One who never sleeps nor slumbers and sees
ever sparrow that falls to the ground. David got how fortunate he was to
belong to God.
Do you dear one? Do you realize how privileged you are
if God is your Father and Christ your Savior? Can you fathom how much you are cared for and
loved? Do you thank Him every day for the life He has given you? It's
not too late to do so. Stop what you're doing right now and talk to Him. Tell Him how appreciative you are that the Lord of hosts would take notice of you and that the King of kings would call you friend.
Ask God to restore the wonderment of creation that you once had as a child and then go out and lay in the grass and watch the clouds and see elephants, lions, and horses or this evening after the sun has set and the stars come out gaze upward and be amazed at the glorious handiwork of your Creator. Be in awe like David and say, "God, what is man, that You are mindful of him?"
Precious Friend, be blessed beyond measure.
